A Waterfront Wonderland for Automotive Aficionados
This year, we again had the privilege of photographing the 2019 Misselwood Concours d’Elegance as part of the team from The Amelia. It’s both an honor and a joy to attend Misselwood, with its wandering lawns and quintessential New England views peppered with meticulously maintained and restored world-class cars.

This was our second year attending Misselwood, but the first year we were able to cover the Saturday morning Tour d’Elegance which meandered along the scenic byways of coastal Massachusetts, stopping over in the bustling seaside village of Newburyport, MA. Several dozen of the cars to be displayed on the field Sunday took to the roads on Saturday for this wonderful tour, including a historic Alfa Romeo 8C, Volvo P1800 SCCA racer, and a massive 1924 Ahrens-Fox fire engine. We even had the chance to get the drone up for some unique stills and video of the tour.

With Sunday’s temperatures forecast to be in the mid 90’s, it was shaping up to be the hottest Misselwood since the event began in 2009. But, as the sun rose over the horizon and entrants began to take their places on the meticulously prepared lawns of the Misselwood estate, we completely forgot about the weather, enthralled by the unique collection of vehicles participating in the 10th anniversary event. From microcars to brass-era behemoths, vintage motorcycles to storied race cars, from familiar marquees to exotic and long-forgotten brands – the show organizers really went above and beyond to bring guests a truly spectacular show for this special milestone.

Over the next several hours, the judges had their work cut out for them – carefully reviewing each lovingly prepared vehicle to determine who would win the coveted Best in Show award. As the mercury rose, the shady trees and a breeze off of the cool Atlantic waters surrounding Misselwood provided a much appreciated respite for guests seeking a break from the heat of the day. Meanwhile, we took to the air – well, our drone took to the air – to capture the fanfare from above.

The day’s festivities culminated with the awards presentation – as about two dozen beautiful cars crossed in front of the podium to receive their awards. Best of Show was a real nail-biter, with several entrants vying for the coveted prize. In the end, a 1936 Cord 810 Convertible Phaeton owned by Thomas & Vivienne Haines was victorious, taking home the top honors in Misselwood’s 10th anniversary concours d’Elegance.
