Summer Wanderings Part 1: Maine

Down East in the Heart of Maine

Deremer Studios Fine Art Photography

As has become our tradition, we dedicated much of our summer to exploring the eastern bits of our fine country, among visits to family and friends.  This year was no exception – with a trip, perhaps a bit longer than we would like – to explore Northern New England, Cape Cod, Rural Vermont, and central Appalachia.  For your viewing pleasure, we’ll be publishing one post for each state we photographed: Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Vermont, Virginia and Tennessee.

Above, is one of our favorite shots from a pair of loons we’ve been photographing for the past several years.  They spend their summers on Rangeley Lake, located in northwestern Maine, a handful of miles from both the New Hampshire and Canadian borders.  The birds have developed a bit of a pattern, and can be found most mornings and evenings along the strip of lake where we stay.  Unfortunately, this year they were not accompanied by a chick, but hopefully they will have more luck again next season.

While in New England, we also took a day trip to Boothbay, Maine.  Located about an hour north of Portland, this area of Maine offers a wide variety of tourist-oriented adventures, from puffin tours, to the Boothbay Railway Village (pictured above).  This was our first time to this part of Maine, and the park proved especially enjoyable, offering vintage train rides, a collection of several dozen historic structures, many of which you could tour, a large collection of antique cars, and an extensive model railway.

As always, please feel free to download as many photos as you like – we have sized the photos to 1080P HD wallpaper, perfect for your desktop, laptop, tablet or TV – and if you enjoy our photos, please share this blog with your friends and help us get the word out!

Essence of Summer Part 3: Lake and Loon

Deremer Studios Fine Art Photography - Desktop Wallpaper

For the next installment of our Essence of Summer 2015 Fine Art Collection, I submit to you the beauty and wonder of Rangeley Lake – a generously sized bit of water sandwiched between the rolling, fertile mountains of northwestern Maine.  Bryn and I first discovered this small town jewel over a decade ago, and we’ve been coming back ever since.  Our home base for the long weekend is the reasonably-priced Town and Lake Motel, situated along the beautiful shores of the lake, with breathtaking vistas of wildlife and scenery alike.  The motel, founded in 1954, offers a collection of cozy motel rooms, as well as two bedroom cabins, perfect for our family.  Best of all, the owners furnish an assortment of canoes and kayaks that guests are free to use at their leisure!  In all our travels around the US, Town and Lake is hands down, our favorite.

This year’s trip proved both a refreshing respite from the hectic pace of life, and a stunning assortment of photo-worthy opportunities.  From mountainous thunderstorms, to pristine rainbows and mist-glazed waters, to intimate encounters with loons, mergansers and moose, it truly was a photographer’s paradise.  Though, to be fair, I do think I made Bryn a little nervous, taking our new Canon 5DS out in the canoe and kayaks (It did survive though).

As always, please feel free to download as many photos as you like – they are full HD images, 1080P, and perfect for your computer, tablet or television – and if you enjoy our photos, please follow us – and for extra bonus points, share this blog with your friends to help us get the word out!

Exploring East: Travels Along the Atlantic States – Maine Moose

2013 07 Fine Art New England 23 Rangeley

Moose!  One of the joys of visiting Rangeley, Maine has to be the sunset drives up Rt 16 toward the Canadian border.  This road is known for moose sightings – so much so that in the 10 or so times we’ve done the drive, only once did we not see a moose.  More typically, as with our last evening in Rangeley this year, you will see several moose each time you go out.  This year, it seemed the moose were more skiddish than in previous years, but the young female pictured above was more than happy to eat from the boggy terrain with an ever-increasing audience.   By this point, the rain was falling substantially and I suspect that deadened the sound of cars enough to give her a sense of ease.  So, we spent 20 minutes watching her, shooting some video and snapping lots of photos in the dimming light.

On the way home, we stopped at Coos Canyon – a breathtaking series of falls slicing through the granite walls of this gentle Maine valley.  With a healthy helping of rain over the past week, the falls were surging like I hadn’t seen before, making for a bit more of a blur on the water than I had hoped, but after a bit of tweaking, I was able to dial in the desired look.  Above, is the upper falls – a more gradual, pool-filled falls that runs the better part of a football field.  In the slideshow below, you’ll see the more truncated and violent lower falls.   As always, enjoy – and of course, feel free to download as HD desktop wallpaper below!

Exploring East: Travels Along the Atlantic States – Maine Lakes

2013 07 Fine Art New England 02 Rangeley

Though not especially breathtaking, Rangeley, Maine has to be one of my top five favorite places to visit and photograph.  This little town, huddled along the shore of its large lake, perfectly blends the charms of an out-of-the-way hamlet with some modern amenities and conveniences that make life just easy enough while still feeling like you’re sort of roughing it.   Once every one or two years, we make the several hour trip and rent a cabin at the charming Town and Lake Motel, perched along one of the pristine inlets of Rangeley Lake.    As with years past, we spent our time exploring the lake and its wildlife, and venturing up Route 16 toward the Canadian border on the hunt for moose.

Above, was a new find this year – a mother common merganser with her young. I was surprised to find this little family several hundred feet from shore.  As always, enjoy – and of course, feel free to download as HD desktop wallpaper below!

Pan-O-Rama

Did you know we also offer a wide selection of fine art panoramas?  Today, I’ve selected some of my favorites from the past several years for your enjoyment.  Prints of these photos are available to purchase in a variety of sizes from Deremer Studios Panorama.

I grew up in New Hampshire, so the rugged beauty of the area has always drawn me.  Though it doesn’t have the expanse of beaches, dramatic thunderstorms, or lazy palm trees, the beauty of this region is truly stunning.  From the 400 years of architectural history (including the oldest brick house in New England), to the rolling hills and still mountain lakes, the region is truly stunning.

As a courtesy to our commercial and individual clients, Deremer Studios shoots a selection of our ultra-high resolution panoramas at almost every setting – providing a truly unique perspective on the shoot.  For our wedding clients, we typically shoot 2 to 4 of these panoramas.   Because these images are so large, you can even blow them up to mural size without loss of quality.  In fact, we have a 8ft panorama of downtown Jacksonville hanging right in our office!
