Fresh & Friendly – Jacksonville’s Newest Grocer Opens its Doors

2014 09 Corporate - Fresh Market Grand Opening 03 - Jacksonville Regency Centers

A few weeks ago on the blog, we said goodbye to Fred Cotten’s BBQ, but this week, we get to bring you a happier business story!  On Wednesday, our friend’s at Regency Centers celebrated the grand opening on their anchor store in the new Brooklyn Station shopping center in Jacksonville’s Riverside neighborhood.  The Fresh Market opened it’s door to a big crowd of reporters, stakeholders and excited customers – offering up tasty free samples and some Fresh Market swag.   The grand opening ceremony itself was rather unique, with the cracking (and sharing) of a giant wheel of Parmigiano-Reggiano in lieu of the more traditional ribbon cutting.  The store was beautifully organized, the shelves filled to the brim with fresh produce, groceries, and a bevy of health-conscious items ripe for the picking.

As always, please feel free to download as many photos as you like – and if you enjoy our photos, please share this blog with your friends and help us get the word out!

Big News – Introducing Deremer Studios Fine Art Photography Website!

2014 08 Fine Art Site - Deremer Studios Fine Art 0 Main

We’ve got some big news for you – we’ve just unveiled our latest project – the Deremer Studios fine art photography website.  It’s actually a bit like we’re coming full circle – back in 2002 when the seeds of Deremer Studios were just beginning to take shape, the business was built around fine art photography and the first component of deremerstudios.com was actually a fine art collection.  In fact, we’ve got what we call our ‘heritage site’ still out there if you drill down through deremerstudios.com.  While it was pretty cutting edge for 2002, the site is clearly quite dated and hadn’t been updated in a decade, so here we are, with a brand new site from scratch courtesy the WordPress framework and a great theme from Themeforest.  Add a couple of days of tweaking, playing with the code and a heaping helping of frustration, and you’ve got the site you see today.

And, I’ll let you in on a little secret – this new layout and all its full screen HD goodness is the template for an eventual rebrand of our whole suite of sites!  So, if you are keen on a bit of crowd-feedback, I would love to hear what you like, what you don’t, how things perform and all of that sort of stuff to help us make your experience the best it can be.   We hope you enjoy the Deremer Studios Fine Art Photography Website!

9-11: Newlyweds in a Sea of Tragedy

2012 09 11

Bryn and I had been married less than a month.  We had just returned from our honeymoon and I was just a few weeks into the fall semester at JU.  On that morning, 12 years ago, I had gone to school, and was in the administration building taking care of some business.  I knew something was odd when I walked up to the counter – the usually bustling sounds of work had all but stopped.  On the TV was the World Trade Center ablaze.

I soon found out what had happened, Terrorists has hijacked two aircraft and deliberately flown them into the Twin Towers.  It was no accident, as previously thought, but an act of villainy and evil our generation had never seen.  It was nothing short of shocking.  As a result, I returned home to be with Bryn and for the next 12 hours, we watched the coverage – we saw the towers fall – we saw footage from Washington, Pennsylvania and New York – we saw an endless line of people walking out of New York City – and we grappled with the staggering number of dead.

Twelve years later, as we again remember the attack and those who selflessly risked and lost their lives attempting to save others, may we never forget the cost.

As much as this day has impacted all Americans, please take a moment to remember and pray for the thousands of families for whom this day is a bitter and stinging reminder of loved ones lost.

As a Christian, it is times like these that call to remembrance the Lord’s Prayer, and Christ’s request: “Your kingdom come”.  There is hope in this reality.  There is coming a day, by the work of Christ on the cross, where pain and sorrow will cease, fear and death will be no more, and joy will be forevermore.   IF we are in Christ – this is our certain future:

And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” – Revelation 21:3-4 ESV

“Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb through the middle of the street of the city; also, on either side of the river, the tree of life with its twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit each month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. No longer will there be anything accursed, but the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and his servants will worship him. They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. And night will be no more. They will need no light of lamp or sun, for the Lord God will be their light, and they will reign forever and ever.” -Revelation 22:1-5 ESV

Another evening of dramatic weather for the Jacksonville, FL area today.  Thankfully, I don’t think we have had any tornadoes this eveninng, but the lightning was cracking and the rain came down in 5 gallon buckets!  I went out between meetings to take a few photos.  Here’s some of our favorites!  Enjoy the photos – and of course, feel free to download as HD desktop wallpaper below!

EXTREME Weather – Jacksonville EF2 Tornado Photos, but Abiding Beauty

2013 08 Weather Jacksonville Tornado EF2 02

What a Day for Wild Weather in Jacksonville, FL!  At our office, we collected 5.2 inches of rain in under 2 hours!  And if that weren’t amazing enough, just a few miles down the road, a quarter-mile wide EF2 tornado touched down and caused extensive damage.  Tornadoes and waterspouts are somewhat common to our area, with one or two a year, but it is extremely rare for an EF2 tornado to hit northern Florida.  Thankfully, no one was killed or seriously injured, and the Tornado was only on the ground for a half mile or less, but as you can see from the photos, it caused quite the damage.  Be sure to look at the gallery to see the 2×4 imbedded half way through a second story wall.

However, the day was not entirely marked by destruction. As I was headed home after shooting the aftermath of the tornado, I saw this amazing afterglow from the sunset.  Amazing!  Enjoy the photos – and of course, feel free to download as HD desktop wallpaper below!
