Celebrating 50 Years Since Man First Stepped Foot on the Moon
On the afternoon of July 20, 1969 the whole world watched with rapturous anticipation as Apollo 11’s Lunar Module approached the surface of the moon. With bated breath, millions of people awaited 5 simple words that would mark the astronauts’ safe arrival; “Houston, the Eagle has landed”. As fuel supplies quickly dwindled and became dangerously low, Buzz Aldrin brought the Eagle to rest on the surface of the moon with a mere 40 seconds of fuel to spare.
Celebrating America’s Independence with the Firework’s Bang
After a warm summer day filled with hot dogs and watermelon, parades and performances; Americans gather together en mass along lakeside beaches, municipal sports fields and picturesque river fronts in anxious anticipation of the booming barrage to come. As the last tendrils of daylight blend into the growing blue-black expanse of twilight, a single, solitary flare blazes a vertical trail into the sky, signaling the start of the fireworks display.
As families and friends come together to enjoy a long weekend on the eve of summer, we stop to remember those who have died defending the cause of freedom near and far. In total, over 1,354,000 soldiers have fallen in service of this worthy cause. And today, as we enjoy the comforts these men and women have purchased with their lives, we pause to honor them and pray for those whom they left behind.
Let’s face the facts – without moms, life as we know it would grind to a stop. Beyond their mere biological necessity, moms provide invaluable and often underappreciated love and care that we celebrate on this day. So, as a very small token of our appreciation, we’ve created a veritable bouquet of flowers for you this week – in the form of desktop wallpaper. Here’s just a few samples – but the whole gallery is here, on our site. We love you moms!
