Little known fact: when I was a child, I really, really, really wanted to be a pilot – I dreamed of flying fighters for the Air Force and even began the lengthy process of applying for the academy. If it weren’t for my sudden need of glasses, who knows where I would be today. Yet I was undeterred and headed to college with every intent of becoming a pilot and flying commercially. However, after a year of flight training, I realized that while I love flying, the appeal of commercial aviation as a career began to wane, and… so here I am today, a professional photographer, writing this post for your enjoyment (or derision if you prefer).

But enough about me. Let’s talk about this weekend’s Sea and Sky Spectacular at Jacksonville Beach. Sunday afternoon, after church, we headed out to see the air show – though the weather was less than ideal and threatened rain, the show area managed to stay precipitation-free the entire time. The show itself was filled with a wonderful variety of performers, from solo acts and formation groups, to historic flights from a couple of P-51 Mustangs and an F4U Corsair, to Fat Albert and the Blue Angels. Because of all the moisture in the air, the planes were throwing vapor trails left and right, which made for some pretty cool opportunities, like the one above.
