A few months back now, we had the opportunity to visit Gainesville, FL – specifically the Museum of Natural History and Paines Prairie. We saw countless species of butterflies – to be honest, most of the species were dead specimens mounted to the wall – but there were also thousands of butterflies in their gardens. As you can see from all these photos – they had quite the variety of winged insects out and about!
We then ventured to Paines Prairie and explored the area – spotting a swallow tailed kite and the bald eagle you see below. Enjoy the photos!

Paines Prairie is a bit of an oddity, here is this vast open area among otherwise forested land. It was a lake in the 1800’s when it would flood enough. Great photos!
