Essence of Summer Part 3: Lake and Loon

Deremer Studios Fine Art Photography - Desktop Wallpaper

For the next installment of our Essence of Summer 2015 Fine Art Collection, I submit to you the beauty and wonder of Rangeley Lake – a generously sized bit of water sandwiched between the rolling, fertile mountains of northwestern Maine.  Bryn and I first discovered this small town jewel over a decade ago, and we’ve been coming back ever since.  Our home base for the long weekend is the reasonably-priced Town and Lake Motel, situated along the beautiful shores of the lake, with breathtaking vistas of wildlife and scenery alike.  The motel, founded in 1954, offers a collection of cozy motel rooms, as well as two bedroom cabins, perfect for our family.  Best of all, the owners furnish an assortment of canoes and kayaks that guests are free to use at their leisure!  In all our travels around the US, Town and Lake is hands down, our favorite.

This year’s trip proved both a refreshing respite from the hectic pace of life, and a stunning assortment of photo-worthy opportunities.  From mountainous thunderstorms, to pristine rainbows and mist-glazed waters, to intimate encounters with loons, mergansers and moose, it truly was a photographer’s paradise.  Though, to be fair, I do think I made Bryn a little nervous, taking our new Canon 5DS out in the canoe and kayaks (It did survive though).

Full Moon Rising with the Canon 5DS – Field Test

Deremer Studios Fine Art Photography

We were out doing some evening work in the yard – attempting to dodge the Florida summer heat – and I happened to look east as the moon was rising above the trees.  The rather low, fluffy cumulus clouds, dissipating after a day of thunderstorms, were streaming past the moon as the drifted out to sea, the moons glow creating a colorful rainbow of colors as the clouds crossed the moon.  To the Western sky, Jupiter and Venus were glowing brightly as well – so, no surprise here – I went in, grabbed our new Canon 5DS, slapped on our 100-400 and our 1.4 extender, and started shooting.  I began with some freehand shots at higher ISOs with surprisingly decent results (you could clearly see the phase of the Venus), but later resorted to a tripod to capture some low ISO, high aperture images.  All in all, I was very impressed with the 5DS and here are three of my favorite images!

Dan & Melanie’s Gorgeous Riverfront Wedding!

We’ve got another wedding for your viewing enjoyment!  This is Dan and Melanie’s wedding from a few weeks back.  They were married at a friends home, along the beautiful St Johns River in Greencove Springs.  Despite a quick shower that rolled down the river, we had a wonderful time shooting this intimate gathering of family and friends.  We even had the blessing of a rainbow!  Check out all our favorite photos from the wedding below!

Stephanie and Stephen’s Beautiful Gulf Wedding

For the second time in less than a month, we’ve had the opportunity to shoot a wedding out in the Panhandle – this time in the little town of Carabelle.   Stephanie and Stephen were a wonderfully gracious couple who wanted an intimate wedding on the beautiful Gulf shores.  And boy did they get their wish!  The weather was perfect, the sunset was amazing, and with such a happy couple, the photos pretty much came naturally.  Thanks again for choosing us to be part of your wedding day – enjoy the photos!

Megan & Brad’s Fun & Fabulous Destin Wedding

While it was raining over in Jacksonville, Nate had the pleasure or driving out to Destin to shoot the absolutely fabulous wedding of Megan and Brad. The puffy clouds and glorious sunset (not to mention the awesome rainbow) were the perfect backdrop for their wedding day.  For their wedding, Megan and Brad rented this wonderful gulf-front home complete with spiral staircase, elevator, and amazing views – one of three connected villas by Patterson Homes.  Thanks Megan and Brad for making us a part of such a wonderful day!  Here’s to many, many, many more wonderful days in your future!
